Google’s Ideological Summary

Google has been a market leader amongst the Search Engines. Did I say something new? Off course not, this might be the 1 billionth time someone said this! But still we can discuss a few things that haven’t been market place news.

Apart from being the leader in search engines, Google has rapidly acquired many online properties and invested heavily in technology and is now being considered a flag bearer in Internet Market and technology.

It has taken head-on previous market leaders in their respective fields like Microsoft, Yahoo and Apple and is smiling all the way to banks, and getting applauses from all the quarters.

Google has not only acquired cult status but also created a huge brand for itself unparallel in recent history.

However I am going to lay down some important aspects of being a leader.

1) Leaders are expected and supposed to lead.

2) Leaders have a vision and they share with the common people or their followers.

3) They capture the market with innovative products or they create markets for their products.

Now Google has all the qualities mentioned above in plentiful.

• Popularizing videos[youtube, google videos] and revenue generation through them
• Popularizing map based services (Google Maps and APIs) and revenues from them
• Targeting operating systems for traditional PCs, laptops and hand held devices[andriod] (New gateway to the internet)
• Internet browsers [chrome]
• Revolutionized money making through internet for itself and millions of others [adsense and adwords]
• Analysis of your website’s data [Google Analytics]
• much more….

Vision or Ideology of Google:

Google’s vision can be analyzed from its home page itself. “Keep it simple, keep it useful, give better services and then reap the rewards.”

The home page of Google has lots of free space giving an very clear sign of their agenda. They have targeted simplicity and usefulness of their search results. All they are worried about is the algorithm they are using should be the best now and years to come, this is the way they can keep their hold on the revenues streams.

Now being a leader its tries to let other people understand this thing and help them learn their way. Many people would agree, many would not agree to their line of thoughts.

They have a very clear vision of simplifying web. If someone wants to access some information about some damn thing, they provide that with a few clicks and they want the clicks to be as less as possible.

Therefore they need to optimize their search results and keep improving. However they would also like their followers adhere to a few things they religiously follow.

• Being a leader they have the power to reward those who follow their line of thoughts and punish who are nuisance maker by their yardstick.
• They promote a website to top ranks depending upon a set of rules they have lay down and can ban a website which plays around with them.
• Since its always better to be a leader or a follower, we mortals are left with a few choices. However logical thinking is very similar to gravity, you cannot defy that for long. So you can trust the market leader for sometime, assuming that all that they are saying has a very good logical reason behind that.
• As a leader Google has the right to decide between the right and the wrong. So lets drill down on a few things that you need to do. Look into Google Webmaster’s Guideline try to follow what they suggest for the website.

• Now even if Google is the leader, it cannot ignore the calls of the mere mortals (fun intended, well off course many websites command similar respect). Therefore it devised a way to pay respect to all websites. It is back links, or incoming links and page rank as a way to represent the same. When numerous website refer your website, then Google takes count of the same and shows you up in search results as a result of that. There are numerous ways to build links. Well the best way should keep in mind again a simple fact. Can you get links from websites that are themselves respected, can you get it with very less effort, can you get lots of links to prove that you are genuine?

[Less effort means that you are engaging in buying, exchange, spamming. You can busy creating good content and people are linking to your website. Good website (High PR, authority websites) talking about. Well off course you are doing a great job.]

• If you have good content, many people refer you through out the web and you website is damn slow, then you are harassing your viewers in a different way. Google wants you to provide information as fast as you can, and its appreciates if anyone does the same . Make sure that your page loads faster than average or you nearest competitors. This is a technical requirement, please do not compromise any other aspect of your website to achieve this one.
• Now there can be numerous methods that can be used to impress upon Google that you are following everything but cheat in the back. This is simply called as “black hat” techniques. These are listed as offence by Google in various documentation in their websites, blogs, discussion forums. I would say no to any of these techniques like stuffing, cloaking, duplicate content or rampant plagiarism, linking schemes. They can cause you harm beyond your imagination.
• Google wants a web where genuine webmasters are rewarded for their efforts. Accessing relevant information should be as easy as possible. If you want to buy links then make it clear that you have bought it, do not try to cheat everyone. Speed (Webpage loading speed) would be one of the criteria for better search results and the impact of this small introduction can be seen, when lots of projects would be awarded just to increase the speed of the website in future. 
• Great Navigation is appreciated by the users and so are the search engines. At the end of the day, the end users decide whether they like the website or not and Google cannot force “stone age” navigational websites in the top ranks. If you have good content let the whole world know about it, please do not play “treasure hunt” through your website by challenging the visitors to find “great content” on your website. They wont come back to you again. They have better games to play around.
