I recently started participating in Google forums for Google Places and found that there were some interesting issues that people were facing. So I came up with this idea of resolving some of the issues in this post.
Q.1 Name not allowed in the Google Places Listing?
Some of the names like Brandy, Speed ,WTF, WTS…are not allowed while you are filling the business name. If that is the case then try the following things.
-
Try to remove the spaces
-
Try to shorten the name of business
-
Post your issue in Google forums, some one from Google might help you out by changing the database.
-
Presently they don’t have an option for email reports for your issue still check out this page.
Q.2 Why my business never shows up when I search?
Basic issue here is with the keywords that we are searching for. Google never guarantees that your website will come for a particular keyword just like normal search.
Please take the following precautions:
-
Login to your Google Places account and check whether your listing has any issue in the dashboard related to verification.
-
Search the Keyword along with your place like “plumbing near Seattle”
-
Search using the business name and not the website url.
-
Search using the “business name” “place” like “Diffion Consulting near Bhubaneswar”
-
Search using the “business name” “Pin code”
Q.3 Can’t see the dashboard when I login to Google Places.
This is a major issue I myself face daily. If I am logged into Gmail and now go to Google.com/places it does not shows me dashboard for my business listing. To resolve the same sign out and Login again and now you can see the dashboard, isn’t it easy.
Will try to come up with some more issues in other post.
