In one of year of analysis of Traffic and SEO, we have observed that Bing was substantially increased its capability to quickly crawl and index web pages. This has lead to increased traffic to some small and newly launched website. The first thing a website owner should do while initiating his quest for more traffic from Bing is submit to Bing or Submit to Bing webmaster accounts and manage the website.
Simply go to this URL : http://www.bing.com/toolbox/webmasters/
If you click on the “submit a site to bing” link then you will be taken to a very simple form as given below.
Simply Enter the captcha and the URL of your website and let the Bing bot do the rest for you.
However we would strongly suggest you to spare a few minutes and register with Bing Webmaster Tools by clicking on the other link given in the above image. In that case it will take you to the URL to login into the account. Use a livemail or hotmail id to register and login to the Bing webmasters account.
Once you login to the account, the home of the webmaster account would be displayed as the following image.
Check the Tab “SITES” and click on the “add site” button.
Enter the URL of the website in the window that opens up. It is always advisable to open your website in browser and then copy the URL to this window, in that case the default domain of the website would be registered with Bing webmasters. (Your default domain can be http://yourwebsite.com/ or http://www.yourwebsite.com/)
Once you have entered the website you need to verify the that this domain belongs to you. This can be done in very simple steps. Click on the “verify now” link you a new window will open up.
You can either download an XML file and save that in your server or you can copy a tag and paste that in your default webpage.
This seems to be hardest part for most of the person since they hardly do any updation in their website and it is usually done by guys who created the website for the owners. Now if you have a CMS “wordpress or joomla” you can edit your header file and save the tag. In the other hand you can download the XML file and save that in your server using the Cpanel.
On further expansion of both the option you will get this information. [You simply need to click both the option]
Now I will show you both the option.
Option One: XML File
As instructed download the file named as BingSiteAuth.xml into you computer. Save it anywhere or create a folder for future reference and use.
Login to your CPanel.
Click on the file manager section.
Chose the selected option, usually it comes by default.
It will open a new window as given below. You simply click on the upload button.
Once the upload is complete, you are done with this part of the job. You can now log off your cpanel and move back to Bing.
Look to the verify ownership image of Bing and click on the verify now. Your website is now verified in Bing Webmasters tool by option 1. [We will discuss the verification of Bing webmasters by Option 2 in another blog for wordpress based website.]
Once you have verified your website you will be shown the following image. [For website that been just verified there would not be any data as given below"]
This will be the dashboard data for the website.
Then add your XML sitemap of your website.
Once you have added the website and the sitemap you can use use Bing Submit Tool option to add URLs of your website so that they indexed immediately and you get your well deserved traffic.
